Introduction to Reflexology

Reflexology is a popular complementary therapy that treats health issues by means of massage of the feet. It is an ancient healing art practised by the Chinese more than 5000 years ago and by the ancient Egyptians, Greeks and native Americans.

Reflexology is based on the premise that the whole body and its systems are reflected in specific areas of the feet. A reflexologist gently and firmly massages the feet, pressing various reflex points to clear blockages and toxic build-up in various body systems. Many people find that reflexology has a soothing and relaxing effect that is particularly helpful in the treatment of stress.

Reflexology is a popular complementary therapy that treats health issues by means of massage of the feet. As in many complementary therapies, reflexology is based on the theory that health depends on the flow of energy within the body. In many therapies, energy is seen as flowing through channels, or meridians – in reflexology, 10 channels, known as zones, are thought to terminate in the feet and hands.
